Mike Domokur and Domokur Architects received an Award of Merit for Best infill Building Project for the 43 South Broad Street Development Project in Brevard, NC. The new 4-story mixed-use building includes over 20,000 square feet of restaurant, retail, office, and residential condos in the heart of downtown. The building is constructed on the site of a former gas station which had been removed, remediated, and left vacant for many years. The project received a $200,000 grant from the Main Street Solutions Fund, a reimbursable matching grant program promoting economic development through local job creation and retention.
Courtney Domokur and Melanie Spreen received the award on March 13, 2019 during the 2019 Annual North Carolina Main Street Conference in Salisbury, North Carolina. Fourteen communities received awards for excellence in downtown revitalization. “This year’s award-winning projects represent some of the state’s best downtown revitalization success stories. The projects being recognized are notable building rehabilitation projects, extraordinary public art projects, creative promotional activities, and public-private partnerships formed to make significant downtown changes and improvements,” said Liz Parham, Director, N.C. Main Street & Rural Planning Center, part of the Rural Economic Development Division at N.C. Commerce.
