Camp Tapawingo is a remarkable property in the heart of the Illinois prairie. The site consists of a series of upland meadows marked by deep wooded ravines.
The existing resident camp will be completely redeveloped to accommodate over 400 day, troop and resident campers. The arrival area will display a series of high profile activities including the Equestrian Center, Adventure Center, Aquatics Center and Day Use Welcome Center. The center of camp will be anchored by the existing Dining Hall and will include 4 new year round villages and three new seasonal villages. Additional program facilities in main camp will include an Arts Center, environmental Education Center, fields and courts, a Natural Plan Area and a multi-purpose Activity Center. The hidden surprise at Tapawingo will be the development of an 57 acre deep ravine lake for watercraft and primitive adventure activities.
The first phase focused on development of the Equestrian Center stables, classroom and riding rings which were completed in the summer of 2012 followed by an indoor riding arena adjacent to the stables.
