This project consisted of renovations of the Courthouse and the Adaptive Reuse of the adjacent Nick Amster Building. The Nick Amster Building was purchased by Wayne County in an effort to address current and future space needs. Its location contiguous to the west wall of the Wayne County Courthouse, allowed for expansion of existing departments related to or supporting the Court System.
Original construction, which took place in several phases beginning in the mid 1800’s, resulted in multiple stories in the current structure. Our greatest challenges were code and egress issues, particularly Americans with Disabilities Act compliance. A new elevator, ramp systems, a lift mechanism, and new exit stairs were incorporated to resolve these issues. The exterior was painted, tuck pointed and cleaned along with a new roof and windows.
