Owing to our successful partnership on Kent State's Tri-Towers Residence Hall Renovation, the Design/Build team of Gilbane Building Company and Domokur were selected for the renovation of these four residence halls, which date to the 1950s-‘60s. The scope of services for these halls, totaling 209,865 SF and housing roughly 1,000 students, included the replacement of the existing two-pipe heating units with four-pipe heating/cooling units that meet the University’s goals for energy conservation, sustainability and occupant comfort. Outdated floor finishes were updated to carpet tiles, and new wardrobes will replace the built-in units in Beall and McDowell.
Construction commenced in May 2015 and was completed by move-in day for the Fall Semester 2015 – representing another example of the “Summer Slam” construction timetable for the purpose of keeping student residences online for Fall and Spring semesters. Meeting the aggressive schedule and budget for this project was made possible through our excellent working relationships with both Gilbane and KSU, and by maintaining strong lines of communication and logistical structuring across all project-involved parties.
