Lakewood Recycling Center and Site Improvements

The City of Lakewood selected Domokur to plan and design a new recycling center on an active municipal property. Our team developed the program and site plan around the needs of residents, waste-hauling contractors and City employees while preserving ongoing operations.

The project introduced a pre-engineered metal building with a drive-through layout that simplifies resident drop-off and allows refuse packer trucks and other containers to remove collected materials efficiently. Offices support on-site staff, while an attached existing structure continues to provide truck parking and storage.

Site planning maximized the use of existing buildings, repurposed available space and improved vehicle circulation. The work also included renovation of the truck storage building, relocation of the spoils stockpile yard, coordination of three 2-million-gallon CSO storage tanks, phased demolition, asphalt repairs, stormwater drainage and electrical upgrades.

Completed in November 2023, the project provides a safer and more efficient route through the site for residents, contractors and City staff. The new recycling building streamlines collection and removal, while the reuse of existing structures and phased logistics supported continued municipal operations during construction.
