Collaboration
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources engaged Domokur as criteria architect and master planner for a multi-site design-build program spanning six state parks. Drawing on our experience with ODNR and park and campground projects, we established common design criteria while addressing the needs of Buck Creek, Harrison Lake, Hueston Woods, Indian Lake, Punderson and Tar Hollow.
Concept
We developed a master plan for each park and organized the recommended work into construction phases. Planned improvements include RV pads, showerhouse updates, new restrooms, dump stations and related campground infrastructure. The phased approach gives ODNR a coordinated statewide program while allowing improvements to be scheduled according to each park's immediate and long-term needs.
Because the six sites differ in layout and existing conditions, each master plan translates the statewide criteria into location-specific recommendations. Together, the plans support coordinated design-build delivery and provide a clear basis for future construction packages.
Results
The master plans give ODNR a consistent framework for immediate and future improvements at all six campgrounds. Recommended phasing helps the agency plan future capital projects, while upgrades to camping facilities are intended to improve the visitor experience and support increased park revenue.
